French terms of endearments, in order of weirdness
“Sweetheart”, “darling”, “honey” – these are common English terms of endearment we use with our nearest and dearest. Naturally the French have their own versions. It’s just that some of them are a little… Well, read on and you’ll see.
1. mon amour (my love)
It’s the Coke Classic of lovey-dovey talk.
2. mon ange (my angel)
We use the same term in English. Bit sickly but fine.

3. mon coeur (heart)
A riff on “sweetheart” but a bit more biological. Why not?

4. mon canard (my duck)
Fluffy duckie-wuckie, you so cute! ‘Duckie’ is also the name of London’s finest gay club.
PASS.
5. ma poule (my hen)
More poultry.
“Hen” is a term of endearment used by Glaswegians that I particularly detest.
PASS, but narrowly so.
6. mon loup (my wolf)
I mean I loved Teen Wolf too but not that much.

Cabbages are fart vegetables.

8. ma puce (my flea)
“I love you so much. Let me think of a name that conveys just how adorable I think you are… Hmm, what about the creature famous for spreading the bubonic plague? Perfect!”
